INEM IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW BADLY YOUNG CHILDREN ( especially girls) ARE TREATED IN SOME SOCIETIES.DISCUSS WHY SOME SOCIETIES TREAT CHILDREN THAT WAY. 


In the short story of Inem who is written by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, have a good example of how badly young children especially girls are treated in some societies. They are many factors why this little girl is treated in that way. One of the factors is the background of family. Inem come from poor family. His father love to gamble, robbing and always make an illegal income. So, if the leader of the family we called father is the trouble maker or in a mean word as a criminal, what would happen to the family’s faith. The other factor is the attitude of their parents themselves. Such an example, if the parents are hot temper person and fail to control their temper, they will let it out to their own children. They might make a silly decision by hitting the little child like a doll to release their temper. The last one is, there are no responsibilities in the parent’s behaviour.  They are daring to take a risk to marry their little girl to a wealthy. This is because they are desperate to get money without do some efforts. They took the easy way to get money. Once they get the money, they will use it things. In the story line of the Inem’s story, after his father get the money, he just ran away from the house and uses the money for gambling.as the result, we can conclude here that the background of family is the main factor how badly young children especially girls are treated in some societies nowadays. 

Journal Entry No. 7 ( Movie- The Color Purple)

Describe the changes that Celie and Shug go through. Provide examples from the movie scenes.

From movie The Color Purple, Steven Spielberg there are two specific characters, that is Celie and Shug. The hardship of life had changed Celie from gutless woman into a brave woman. Celie is an obedient wife who would do anything that has been asked by her ungrateful husband. It is really an interesting movie and I do really enjoy myself watching the movie. This movie moves me to the point of tears. It is sad and beautiful. The acting is incredible. This movie took place around Southern United States during the 1900s. The film starts by introducing about the life of a poor African American girl, Celie, whose was being abused since she is young. By the time she is fourteen, she has already had two children by her father, (which is supposed to be her stepfather), who takes them away from her at childbirth and forces Celie to marry a local widower whom she calls "Mister”, but his name is Albert Johnson. Mister, who likes Celie's sister, Nettie, treats Celie like a slave, ask and forced her clean up his household and take care of his children. One day, Nettie comes to live with them, and spend time together and Nettie begins to teach Celie how to read. After Nettie refuses Mister, he kicks her out.

Journal Entry 4: Movie- The Road Home

Question : Give your opinion about the mother's love towards her husband.

The movie , “The Road Home” portrays  the beautiful of endless love. This story is about a girl named Di who fully falls in love with a young teacher named Lou who just came to her village due to his duty. There were many obstacles and challenges before she finally got to marry her husband but no matter how hard the challenges were, she will go through everything with a strong heart and wills for the sake of her love towards her husband. After what she have been through, she even willing to wait for her love in the heavy snow and sick. Plus, she even stood in the same place every day for 2 years and wait for her love to come back and get married. After a few years, her husband died and she wanted her husband to be carried from the city to the village like their traditional culture and also wanted their memories together to be remembered by passing through the road where her husband used to use. 

In my opinion, the mother's love towards her husband are really strong because she rather to wait and do anything for her man in her life. She had to face all the hardship alone. And I think this is really nice movie. 

Journal Entry 6: Mariah

Question :  Choose a character from Mariah. Explain what are the things that you would like to change about the story (or character) and why?

The character that I would like to choose is  I would like to choose a character of Cik Yam a Imam wife to change. The character of Cik Yam should be change like this. In the original story Cik Yam is a very good wife, she does not like to take care of the personal matter and did not easy to believed what the people around her say about her husband. She always look calm when people talk about her husband. She also knows how to cook well. She knows hos to treat people nicely. If I am a writer of this story, I will change Cik Nab's character as she is  such a busy body woman int he village. She loves to gossiping and loves to busy body with people's matter. Even though she is Imam's wife, she do not know how to cook well like Mariah, she also do not know how to treat her husband well and the same time she very easy to believe in what people are saying about her husband. And that is the main reason why Imam wants to get married with Mariah. So I think, Cik Yam's character should be changed.

Journal 4 (Tragedy of My Third Eye)

Question : Why Ping's mother treats Ping cruelly. Is she really a cruel person? Or is it something that leads her to act that ways?

From my opinion, Ping's mother treats Ping cruelly because she's really a cruel person. She's not a good mother. This is because she always treat her daughter badly. I think Ping's mother had been through bad memories during her childhood where she was treated badly by Ping's grandmother. And by looking at the way Ping's grandmother care about Ping, her mother feels irritated that makes her want to prove her mother that she can be a good mother to Ping. So, we can see that Ping's mother is a cruel person. Maybe because Ping is not her biological son.

Journal 3 (Hungry Ghost)

Question : Imagine that you are going to die tomorrow. Write a letter to someone that matters the most to you.

Dear boyfriend,

How are you? I hope you are being blessed with a radiant health. I am writing this letter because I am afraid that there's no tomorrow for me. We all have stories we won't ever tell so do I. I have many things to say to you before I die. I wrote this letter as late at night when everyone is asleep. Maybe, after writing this letter you will know every single thing that you do not know when i'm with you when I was living before.

It was 4 years ago when I had know you. From the day I met you, I know we'd be together and now I know I wanna be with you forever. You know how much you meant to me. You mean world to me. We cannot be together, but we will never be apart, for no matter what life brings us. Even though I've no longer in this world, but I hope you will never forget me. I love your silly jokes, it really makes my day. For me, you are the greatest person I ever had in my life. You're such a good my lover and loyal best friend.

We always dreamed about our life if we get married someday. You got me thinking about our life, our house and kids. If I could give you one thing in life, I could give you the ability you to see yourself through my eyes, only then would you realize how much you mean to me. I am truly grateful for having a wonderful boyfriend like you. Few people on Earth will step out of their way to love someone like you did, and for that I very owe you a lot. Feelings don't die easily because we keep feeding them with memories and I hope you will remember every memories that we cherish together. You know, I'm not the one of the prettiest girls around, but you make me feel very beautiful when I'm with you. 

My dearest boyfriend, I can say I'm truly happy to this day you make me thank God that I live my life everyday cuz there's never been a doubt that I'd regret having you in my life. But I know, the time has come and I have to let you go. I think there's something I should probably let you know, that everyday I spent with you and I won't miss you cause I'm happy that I had you at all. Words don't seem to be enough to express how thankful I really am to have you in my life even for a short period of time. Sorry.. if i do not listen to your advice. Sorry.. if I have hurt you. I didn't mean to hurt you. I do not have intentionally to make you hurt. Please don't cry for me. Don't let yourself stay sad. And if suddenly you miss me or something, do pray for me. i.  Explain why Brigadier Mason and Hiro have respect towards each other eventhough they are on a different sides of war?

Brigadier Mason and Hiro have respect towards each other eventhough they on a different sides of war because they both understand a terms called duty. In the military, duty is the prioritize responsibility. Brigadier Mason tells about his experience a challenge that he facing during the war. At that time, he is facing a challenge which is he is tortured by the Japanese army. Brigadier Mason states that war is, at best, a rather unpleasant business. Although all kinds of physical and psychological methods done, Brigadier Mason still stand upright on his belief. He was innocent. It is proven when Hiro shook Brigadier Mason's hand and said it was an honor to meet a brave man like Mason himself. Then, they both bowed formally each other. The bowed also represent the respect on both of the characters. Brigadier Mason bowed to show his respect on Hiro's culture, eventhough he was an Englishman. He understand and respect the culture, show the formality by performing the Japanese bow. The effect from the war is we can be brave, strong and learn about so many things in our life such as life is not complete without challenge. Hiro send Mason an invitation letter, invitation to his execution event. Mason granted Hiro's request by present at the event. They both honored to be present on that event because of courage shown by Mason during his captivity as PoW and Hiro was honored to see the bravest man, Mason to present on his last day. They both gained mutual respect in the time of war by understanding each others duty and personality.

Journal 1 : Pretending,

I always think of the character as being me. But me wearing a 'coat' , which may be a different way of speaking, moving or regarding other people. To me, acting is pretending, just lie a kids playing, only you pretend as if it were really, really real.

I don't think that we necessarily to lie. I mean, we make our own living by pretending that we're someone else. I don't tell tall tales. I always tell the truth. The truth is, I hate people who always pretend good in front at me. But at my back, they talk shit about me.

You ask me about regret? Let me tell you a few things about regret.

There is no end to it.I don't fear your judgment 'cause I already know who I am.

Someone asked me, the other day, that if I could change five things about my life, what would I change?

My answer: nothing this is who I am, who I'm meant to be. I love being me; even when I'm feeling crappy and I hate myself I wouldn't change a thing. 

Well you do what you do and you pay for your sins, and there's no such thing as what might have been.Who am I? I am who I say I am. What is broken is broken 
Without pain, there would be no suffering, without suffering we would never learn from our mistakes.I'm not going to apologize for it, cause the truth is I'd do it again.You have to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you got, and remember what you had. Always forgive, but never forget, learn from your mistakes, but never regret.
It's hard to accept, but you can't change the past. You can't go back and manipulate things to the way you wanted them to happen. Because life'd be meaningless and boring and just not worth living. But you can change the future and that's a beautiful thing about life. Yes, you will make mistakes. And yes, you will have bad days - but as long as you let the past go, you'll have such a gorgeous and bright future ahead of you. Knowing that things were meant to happen. Knowing that each day you will learn something so that you keep growing to be a better person. 



Deep in my heart, I hate people pretending in front of me. I knew when I grow up, I always wanted to be a liar, and if you're television you're lying because you're just pretending to be yourself like I'm doing right now. Honestly,  I hate two faced people. because I don't know which face I have to slap first.
